Family Session on Tybee Island | Diane Dodd Photography

Jim & Claudette were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Tybee Island with their sons, daughters-in-law and grandchildren recently and I had the pleasure of snapping some family photos for them. They wanted new ideas for family clothing options other than the always popular khaki/white combo. I'd like to share some of the ideas that I emailed them before the shoot because I think they might help other families who have questions on what to bring/wear to a family session on the beach. I just LOVE the colors they chose! They went well together for the group photo and also looked awesome on everyone in their individual family shots! Helpful Tips: There is a great little site for ideas on color palettes *HERE*. I think any of these combos as tops with white or light pants/shorts/capris (or skirts or dresses) look awesome. Even mix in some color on bottoms, too. Maybe each family in different color schemes for the group shot instead of everybody matching. I just think the khaki/white and jeans/white is overdone, and some pretty colors can work beautifully. Beach photos can be colorful & fun!! 2013-06-13_0002.jpg 2013-06-13_0003.jpg 2013-06-13_0004.jpg 2013-06-13_0001.jpg 2013-06-13_0005.jpg 2013-06-13_0006.jpg 2013-06-13_0007.jpg 2013-06-13_0011.jpg 2013-06-13_0008.jpg 2013-06-13_0009.jpg 2013-06-13_0010.jpg 2013-06-13_0012.jpg 2013-06-13_0013.jpg 2013-06-13_0014.jpg

Dresser Palmer House | Savannah Elopement | Spring Ceremony

The Dresser Palmer House Savannah Elopement Carolyn and Mike traveled from South Carolina to be married at the beautiful Dresser Palmer House in Historic Savannah. We couldn't have asked for a more gorgeous day or location! Carolyn carried Mike's ring in a tiny blue bird that was actually a gift he had given her on their first date. She kept it hidden from him until the vows and I thought that was such a sweet sentiment! Best wishes to Carolyn and Mike on their new journey together as husband and wife! Savannah Portrait Photographer | Forsyth Park | Spring Family Session

Savannah Portrait Photographer I am excited that Spring is officially here in Savannah! The Lundberg family was visiting from Washington and staying at the amazing Hamilton Turner Inn. They called me to schedule their family session in Forsyth Park and we couldn't have asked for a more beautiful Spring day! The twins were super cute and I loved watching them interact with each other. It was so fascinating to watch them play together- even simple games like rock, paper, scissors they were always in sync. I always love to meet families who are visiting Savannah for the first time and watch them take in all of the beauty around us. Kehoe House | Savannah Elopement | Tricia and Steven

Kehoe House Savannah Elopement Tricia and Steven traveled from Missouri to be married on the veranda of the beautiful Kehoe House in Historic Savannah. In true elopement style, they did not tell ANYBODY that they were getting married during their vacation to Savannah. After the ceremony they made a few phone calls to tell their parents- the reactions were absolutely adorable as you can see in the photos below the cake pictures. The sun was just starting to set creating some beautiful light for our pictures around the Kehoe House and in the adjacent Columbia Square. The Newlyweds enjoyed a special carriage ride to Forsyth Park where we got a few last shots. Congratulations to Tricia and Steven!! Diane knocked it out of the park! Her photographs were beautiful and she really listened to our wants and needs. She works quickly and has a natural eye for a great shot. She allowed us to be ourselves while capturing the magic of our secret, exciting day! I am absolutely in love with my photographs. I can't say thanks enough to Diane!"

Dutch Island Proposal | Savannah Engagement | Alex & Sarah

Dutch Island Proposal Alex emailed me several weeks before he planned to propose to Sarah at her parent's beautiful home on Dutch Island. He put a lot of thought into the whole plan and it went off without a hitch. Sarah and her friends and family all thought they were meeting at the house for a banquet for Sarah's father and had no idea of the surprise proposal Alex had planned. Sarah's father was the only one in on it. Sarah was asked to go out to the dock to get some flowers, and as she was walking back towards the house she was surprised by Alex. He got down on one knee and proposed. It was all so sweet and everyone was so surprised and excited for them! I could definitely feel the wonderful energy from everyone there. Congratulations to Sarah and Alex! Savannah Proposal | Forsyth Park Engagement Session | Sydney and Andrew

A Savannah Proposal Andrew called me several weeks before he planned to propose so that I could be there to capture the moment. They took a romantic, historic carriage ride with Madison Tour Company, and Andrew planned for them to be dropped off at Forsyth Park. I arrived early to claim my spot on a bench and appear to be a tourist as I studied my map of Savannah. They walked right past me and on up to the fountain where Andrew proposed. Sydney's reaction couldn't have been more sweet! I absolutely LOVE shooting proposals. After she said "I do", we spent the next hour or so walking through the park and squares snapping photos. Congratulations to Sydney and Andrew! Tybee Family Portraits | Tybee Island Beach | Kwong Family

Tybee Family Portraits The Kwong family traveled from Atlanta to spend their vacation on Tybee Island. With 5 little ones between the 2 sisters I had a blast watching the bigger kids play in the water, and I could not get enough of the 4 month old twins. So CUTE!!! Grandma was a great sport and kept me laughing during the group shots. Such a fun beach session! Daufuskie Family Portraits | Daufuskie Island | Daufuskie Photographer

Daufuskie Family Portraits Last week I had the pleasure of photographing 3 families who were vacationing together on Daufuskie Island at the Oceanfront Residence Club. Daufuskie is one of my favorite places to travel to for family sessions and also for personal time. It is so beautiful and peaceful. We got very lucky with the weather- there was a big thunderstorm and then all the rains stopped just in time for our session. We started out at the Melrose Resort side of the island getting some scenic shots with the old Oaks, then we head over to the beach at Bloody Point to get some fun, candid shots of the kids playing on the beach. As hard as I tried, I never did get one photo of all 6 kids facing the camera at the same time, but the images that I did manage to get are hilarious and I love them even more because they are real. And yes, that is a santa hat and yes, this was August- little Brennan is obsessed with all things santa and Christmas so he wanted to wear his hat. Too cute!! Lafayette Square Elopement | Destination Savannah | Marian & David

Lafayette Square Elopement with a twist! David and Marian traveled from Florida to be married by Rev. Joe Wadas in Savannah's Historic Lafayette Square. As it turned out, a Japanese TV production company, TopSpin Creative, was in town filming for a one-hour weekly travel documentary series, "The World Travel on Foot" for NHK, the largest public broadcaster in Japan.  For the documentary, the camera walks through the streets to find people doing interesting things, and has a brief conversation with them about the city and their lives.  They were filming a segment on Savannah, and David and Marian's elopement was part of the feature that aired in July on NHK! That was definitely a first for me and we had such fun participating in the show. Marian told me later, "I still think about our little ceremony every day and how perfect it was." You can view the documentary HERE (our footage appears at 27min, so you can forward to that part. And of course it is all in Japanese, so I hope they are saying nice things about us lol)  Congratulations to Marian & David! lafayette-square-elopement-36.jpg lafayette-square-elopement-6.jpg lafayette-square-elopement-11.jpg lafayette-square-elopement-1.jpg lafayette-square-elopement-3.jpg lafayette-square-elopement-25.jpg lafayette-square-elopement-13.jpg lafayette-square-elopement-17.jpg lafayette-square-elopement-20.jpg lafayette-square-elopement-27.jpg lafayette-square-elopement-26.jpg lafayette-square-elopement-35.jpg Are you recently engaged and looking for a Savannah or Tybee wedding photographer?
