Savannah Family Portraits | Tinsley Family
The Tinsleys recently found out that their 3 year old daughter Ava has stage 3 high-risk neuroblastoma, which is localized, but very aggressive. Over the next year she will endure 5 rounds of chemotherapy, during which she will be in the hospital for several days and then home recovering for a few weeks, surgery, at least two trips to Atlanta for stem cell collection and transplant, radiation, and then immunotherapy.
They asked me to photograph their family so they could document some special family moments together before the long road of treatments begin (she already had her first chemo treatment and it went well). It meant a lot to me to be able to capture some happy memories for them. Older sister Ella and my son Henry have been classmates in daycare, Pre-K and now are in the same kindergarten class. Ella is a little firecracker and is very comfortable in front of the camera. She is so cute and calls me “Henry’s Mom”. Ava was a little shy but warmed up quickly and I think we got some precious images. She is a strong little girl with a big heart and I know she will beat this!
If you would like to help the Tinsleys, a GoFundMe account has been set up to help with medical and travel expenses over the next year for Ava’s treatment and recovery.

I have a gorgeous Olde Pink House wedding to share with you today! Maria and Jay traveled all the way from New York to be married in Historic Downtown Savannah. It is obvious that they were meant to be together and I was honored to be a part of their special day.
Maria writes, “It’s funny how life has a way of coming full circle. When I had my first date with Jay, neither one of us was interested in another date. I’d met him around 2007 while I was working part-time as a personal assistant for a Broadway director. Jay’s a classical musician, and I was in charge of getting the band where it needed to go. We’d hit it off instantly and I was hoping he would ask me out — when he finally did, I was elated — but it totally bombed.
Fast forward to 2012, Jay’s flipping through the newspaper and finds an article about a book I’d just written. He sent a text message to congratulate me and asked me out on a belated second date. We’ve been together ever since! We married at the Olde Pink House exactly three years from that second date.
Since we live in New York City and Jay grew up in Alaska, and I grew up moving around, we decided a cozy, destination wedding, made the most sense and would allow us more time with our guests. Our families had to fly anyway, so we chose Savannah — we’d always wanted to go and it was much more economical than Manhattan. We planned the entire weekend sight-unseen so we could stay a few extra days and explore the city for our honeymoon. We loved ALL our vendors! It was a mix of a lot of research and a pinch of luck… the result was pure joy!”
